MIDI to CV Converters

What do MIDI to CV Converters do?

In order to control pre-MIDI synthesisers from a modern MIDI instrument or sequencer, you need to change the digital MIDI messages into the kind of signals the pre-MIDI synth can understand. Kenton has two high specification converters designed to suit all needs and pockets.

The Pro-2000 MkII, introduced in 2005, improves on the tried and tested Pro-2000, with even more additional features and for the price is the best value converter on the market, anywhere. The versatility of this unit is awesome.

The PRO-2000 superceded the Pro-2 in 1997, a converter which sold nearly three thousand units and received unanimous acclaim, both in the press and from customers.

Standard competition-beating features on both Kenton models:

  • Super-fast response times
  • Famous Kenton build quality - rugged steel case
  • High specification 16 bit D/A converters for rock-steady pitches
  • 'Volts per octave' & 'Hertz/Volt' scaling
  • Programmable Gate out(s) including S-Trig
  • MIDI syncable LFO(s)
  • MIDI IN/THRU
  • MIDI analyser mode
  • Built-in portamento
  • Note priority selection
  • 5 note memory on CVs for added playability
  • Nine waveform LFO(s)
  • Programmable auxiliary CV output(s)
  • Set-ups stored in non-volatile RAM

The above list isn't the whole story however. When it comes to D/A converters, many other manufacturers boast 16 bit D/As, but the number of bits is only a part of the story, most cars have four wheels, but there is a vast difference between the most expensive and least expensive models. Kenton use D/As that are at least five times the cost of those found in some other units. Then there's the firmware. Kenton converters are designed with the player in mind. Even when playing a monophonic instrument, a note memory is essential for playability. Unfortunately some people just look at the cost and think that they don't need the additional features our products offer, however within a few days of buying a lesser product, they will find out why these features are important - it isn't always obvious. Of course you can always give a call on the telephone and we can give you the benefit of our years of experience.

Socket upgrades for Analogue Synthesisers For those monosynths without the necessary inputs, Kenton have a range of Socket upgrades to enable you to add those all-important CV, Gate & Filter sockets and sometimes a few others too. We can fit such sockets for you or, alternatively, supply a kit of parts and instructions. Please look at our Socket upgrades page for further information and our How to connect page which shows some typical examples of using our MIDI to CV converters with some popular synths.
